Suzuki GSX250R ridden on a road

The long awaited and completely new A2 licence friendly Suzuki GSX250R has arrived in UK dealerships this week dangling a £4299 price ticket from its handlebars.

Among the plethora of small capacity bikes Suzuki has unleashed for 2017 with the GSX-R125, GSX-S125 and V-Strom 250, comes the GSXR250 with its 248cc single overhead cam twin cylinder engine putting out an undaunting but useable 25bhp. This means the bike is a perfect option for a newly qualified rider looking for a first bike and is equally targeted at commuters.

The Suzuki is though at the bottom of the pile in terms of power in this highly competitive class as all rival machines over 125cc make the most of the 46.9bhp limit for A2 licence holders – Honda CBR300R: 30.4bhp, Kawasaki Ninja 300: 39bhp, KTM RC390: 46.6bhp and Yamaha YZF-R3 42bhp.

Suzuki, it seems have opted to focus on the economy of their powerplant rather than the power output and the claimed, class-leading 91.12mpg may be attractive for the more frugal rider. And the same goes for the price tag which is £800 less than the KTM.

Suzuki’s GSX250R is the new lightweight A2-friendly machine on the block.

The GSX250R takes its styling cues from the iconic GSX-R sportsbike line-up and is available in black or, for an extra £100, the predominantly blue MotoGP colour scheme.

With a £1,500 deposit, on a Suzuki hire purchase deal, the new machine is available for £90.22 per month, over 36 months, with the bike owned at the end of the agreement.
